Blankets and Bedtime: 3 Restless Plays was an anthology of one-acts showcasing a corrupt Hollywood star system, the dirtiest secret of World War II, and the darkest delusions of an unsalvageable mind. Each play was bound to the next by the theme of inescapable confinement, wrapped into 80 minutes of electrifying theatre.

Winner, Outstanding Overall Production of an Anthology of One-Acts, Planet Connections Theatre Festivity

Premiere Production, Planet Connections Theatre Festivity; dir. Janet Bentley. New York, NY.

This production featured The Screens, Saitama, and the original half-hour version of Sparkler.

In 1964, Clayton Boyd was an American icon. Adoring fans hailed him as a movie star, husband, and devoted father. Behind the scenes, Clayton was an impulsive alcoholic and a homosexual with ferocious cravings. For years, Hollywood moguls successfully managed the tight rope walk between his private life and public image. That is, until Jack arrived. Now Clayton's sham of a marriage is at risk, and he stands to lose everything for love. Inspired by the true stories of a tyrannical studio system, Sparkler is an explosive look at the men and women held hostage by fame.

Sparkler has since been developed into a full-length play. Learn more about it HERE.

As a child, Daiyu saw her family die with the fall of Shanghai. Now sixteen, she is a veteran whore to the Japanese officers, who traffic through her crumbled city. Yet there is one soldier who has been quietly watching Daiyu from afar, turning a sinister plot in his mind to change her fate. This is a story of the "comfort women" of WWII, who were never given a choice.

The playwright interrupts a publicity shoot and says ridiculous things to Max, Meggy, and Chad. Five minutes minutes later, they had loosened up and a daring erotic  photograph was captured by Bryan Cash. On location at Barracuda for Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, New York, NY.

Max and Chad tried to convince us to insert their innovative choreography into the show. We did not. Rehearsals for Blankets and Bedtime: 3 Restless Plays were unpredictable, to say the least.

Chad was more concerned about preparing his audition for the second piece in the show, The Screens. Erik indulged this but knew Chad was unequivocally right for the first piece….Sparkler. He couldn’t say it out loud yet, but he knew Chad Ryan was about the be the first Clayton Boyd. Now you understand why Erik has that obnoxious little grin in this photo.
