PANGAEA by Erik Champney

"Breathtaking and abhorrently insightful." Stephen Collins, livetheatreuk.co.u

It’s all a bit messy. Georgie is having therapy because of The Thing he did when Ross broke up with him. Now Ross is fucking the therapist’s son. Because Ross doesn’t answer to anyone. Set during one unforgettable winter, Pangaea is a thrilling and insightful new play about stumbling teenagers, flailing adults, and the terror of being defined by the people who want to love us.

PANGAEA (Abingdon Theatre Company): Director Jake Smith (L), Misha Osherovich, playwright Erik Champney, and Marrick Smith after a workshop.

Director Jake Smith helmed a workshop of Pangaea, featuring Elizabeth Inghram as Lang, Max Meyers as Phillip, Misha Osherovich as Georgie, Marrick Smith as Ross, and Connie Wookey as Gertrude. It was produced by Jim Kierstead. Abingdon Theatre Company, New York, NY.

The actors instantly connected on sight and fell into sharp focus when Jake took control of the room. His approach was gentle but so definite. The actors were mesmerized by him. They were putty in his hands. He talked them through some preparatory exercises, leading them with delicate certainty to the door of the play. And he pushed them through.

PANGAEA (Centenary College of Louisiana)

Pangaea was originally produced by Centenary College of Louisiana, under the guidance of Don Hooper, Chair of Theatre and Dance. Before the play took its first bow, a six month intensive workshop was led by Erik Champney, in collaboration with selected faculty and students, as well as respected members of Shreveport, Louisiana’s arts scene. Directed with immense nobility by Ryan Williams, the show that came to life was grand and fascinating. Under the spell of an outstanding student cast, audiences were deeply moved by the play’s raw, poetic language.

Erik Champney took over the lead role in the first production of Pangaea. Initially, it was the last thing in the world he wanted to do.

He came around though.
